How to enter our ‘Britain’s Most Beautiful Garden’ competition

By |Published On: 19th August 2019|

Our ‘Britain’s Most Beautiful Garden’ competition has a fun twist in regards to how you can enter. Instead of the ‘like, comment, share’ giveaways we usually organise on social media, this time we’ve set up something a bit more fun – a blogging competition!

Already have your own blog? Then you will know exactly what this entails. If you think you have Britain’s most beautiful garden, all you need to do is check out the requirements for your entry and get started!

For those of you new to the blogging scene but keen to give it a try, we’ve put together the following advice:

Choose a blogging platform

To get started, decide where you would like to write your entry. Creating a blog can be 100% free. There are platforms such as WordPress that allow you to get started with no fee. The basic features you get are more than enough to run a blog without spending a penny.

Writing your blog post

Again, using WordPress as an example (but most blogging platforms tend to be quite similar), once you have an account set up, you will see an option to create a new post. Click/tap on that, and you’re free to type away. There will also be an option to add an image from your device (computer, smartphone etc.). You will also see options for formatting your posts, such as changing fonts, font sizes and colours.

Our tip: If you get stuck, visit the WordPress support forum. Simply search for your issue using the search bar and look for a result that will take you to a similar discussion amongst fellow users. If you find your question hasn’t already been answered, then feel free to ask it yourself!

Entering our competition

Your entry needs to contain the following:

  • Answers to our three questions
  • One or more photo of your beautiful garden
  • A link to our competition page

Feel free to present your entry however you like, but we suggest starting with an introduction describing what your post is about, which will be helpful for anyone visiting your blog and looking for a summary of your content.

We also suggest writing a little conclusion, to tidy things up at the end and avoid your post abruptly stopping.

Either in the intro or conclusion would be a great place to include the link to our competition. To do so, you just need to copy the website address for our competition page and either paste it into the article or create a hyperlink. To do the latter, you need to find the hyperlink button at the top of your post.

Continuing your blog

You may be starting this adventure purely to enter our competition, but why not continue it? If you are here looking for tips on how to enter our competition, you probably have an interest in gardening!

Alternatively, you can mix it up and write about whatever you fancy – it’s completely up to you. Everyone has a different reason for why they wish to write.

Our tip: Give your overall blog a snappy title (this is different from individual post titles, consider it the title of your overall website) – everyone loves a pun! Keep it themed and to the point, to draw in an audience.

We hope this article helps you to get started, but if you are having any trouble at all, do get in touch. We’re on Twitter and Facebook, so feel free to pop over and pay us a virtual visit. Good luck to you all, we can’t wait to see plenty of beautiful gardens from around Britain!
