The UK properties £1m can buy you in 2020
Whether you’re looking to invest in a high-end property to add to your portfolio, or you’re simply thinking about what you would do if you had a spare £1m sitting around, we’ve done the research for you.
The properties £1m can buy you do vary depending on location. Because of this, we took our hypothetical budget and had a virtual tour around the current property market. Here are some examples from cities across the UK, which we found on Zoopla and Rightmove in June 2020:
Farsley, Leeds
£1m can get you a 7 bed detached country house in the village of Farsley, along with a 2 bedroom annexe. Newly listed on Zoopla, this beauty also comes with an indoor pool and leisure suite, perfect for tenants used to a life of luxury…
Rottingdean, Brighton
In the village of Rottingdean, you might be able to find yourself a spacious 5 bedroom detached family home. Added to Rightmove in February 2020, it has a garage and a private driveway.
Oban, Argyll
Fancy investing in a mansion commissioned by the Duke of Argyll in 1780? This 12 bed detached house was first listed on Zoopla in September 2019 and is still looking for a new owner in June 2020.
Ruddington, Nottingham
In the sought-after location of Ruddington, £1m may sound like a lot for a 4 bed detached bungalow. However, this property, first listed on Zoopla in May 2020, has some modern features. It comes with a large heated swimming pool, sauna, changing room with shower, and an electric gated driveway.
Warrenpoint, Newry
Property investors in Northern Ireland might be interested to know that £1m can buy you a 5 bed detached house with beautiful period features. First listed on Zoopla in March 2020, the spacious garden has a pond, vegetable patch and courtyard.
Nantyweirglodd Isaf, Llanfyrnach
Have you ever thought about investing in holiday cottages in Wales? Right now you have the opportunity to add 11 acres of land containing 5 dwellings to your portfolio for £1m. Wellstone Cottages was added to Zoopla in June 2019 for £1,150,000 and reduced by £150,000 in March 2020.
City of Westminster, London
Last but not least, we took our hypothetical £1m to see the current online offerings in London. The Captial city is an expensive place to live, so the properties are not as generous as the previous entries. Most of the houses we came across looked like your typical student accommodation. The listings presented to a high standard were largely 2-3 bedroom apartments.
An example of the latter is this one on Crawford Street, added to Rightmove in January 2020. It has 2 bedrooms, 1 bathroom, 1 reception room and a large open-plan kitchen. The key features highlighted include that it’s on the 2nd floor and is in a 1930s style building.
As you can see, the properties £1m can buy you in the UK greatly vary. Certain areas of the UK are simply more desirable than others. Do you think these are fair representations of the high-end options a £1m budget will get you? Leave a comment and let us know any interesting finds you’ve come across.
